The problem

Three places tolled assets silently underperform
1. Commercial structure
Tolled, merchant, and hybrid structures carry different risk-return profiles and different IRR outcomes. Most projects lock the choice in at financial close and never revisit it, even as market conditions move. You can't evaluate the lever without an independent view of what alternative structures would have captured.
2. Dispatch optimisation
Your optimiser is making thousands of dispatch decisions per day. Rule-based approaches systematically underperform market-learning alternatives on arbitrage revenue. Without an independent benchmark, "performance" is whatever the optimiser's own dashboard happens to report.
3. Degradation-adjusted economics
Heavy participation in fast-frequency services accelerates lithium-ion ageing through solid-electrolyte-interphase fatigue. Industry analysis puts the swing between frequency-heavy and arbitrage-heavy cycling at roughly 15-25% of effective revenue on a degradation-adjusted basis. Most ten-year P50 financial models do not adjust for this, and neither does your optimiser's monthly report.
